Position Description 

Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) is seeking experienced and motivated Energy Engineers to join our engineering team. As an Energy Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to energy efficiency projects, conduct energy assessments, support feasibility studies, and assist in providing strategic energy management services to our utility clients' customers. This role offers an exciting chance to gain hands-on experience, develop cutting-edge solutions, and be part of a team dedicated to creating a sustainable future for Public Sector and Commercial and Industrial facilities. 

Objectives of this Role 

  • Collaborate with senior engineers and the engineering team in executing energy efficiency projects and initiatives. 
  • Conduct facility energy assessments, gather data, and assist in analyzing energy consumption patterns. 
  • Perform simulations and modeling to develop project requirements and support business cases. 
  • Work closely with customers to identify energy efficiency solutions and contribute to the development of tailored strategies. 
  • Perform engineering calculations and testing activities to optimize system functionality and enhance efficiency. 
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation, presentations, and progress tracking. 
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in energy efficiency and sustainability. 
  • Contribute to the development of reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities 

  • Support senior engineers and program managers in managing projects, including analysis of project scope, determination of specifications, and preparation of progress reports. 
  • Contribute to the design and development of engineering solutions by interpreting shop drawings, diagrams, and project specifications. 
  • Assist in evaluating system functionality through testing, identifying opportunities for improvement, and providing maintenance and support for existing solutions. 
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and propose ideas for continuous improvement and innovation. 
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure project timelines are met, while adhering to financial goals and cost-saving measures. 
  • Utilize software programming for the preparation of technical documentation, presentations, and progress tracking.

Required Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, with a focus on energy or related field (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar)
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering and energy efficiency project experience
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency principles and familiarity with building systems, HVAC, MEP, industrial manufacturing, or Demand Side Management (DSM)
  • Proficiency in energy and regression modeling, or willingness to learn and apply these skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and a passion for sustainability and innovation

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Professional Engineer (PE, EIT, FE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM, EMIT), Project Management (PMP), LEED, ASHRAE, Building Performance (BPI), DOE/University - Industrial Assessment Center (IAC)
  • Familiarity with utility and governmental energy programs
  • Experience with Commercial, Industrial, Public Sector, Multifamily Residential buildings

As the Energy Coach, you will play a crucial role in guiding facility managers towards sustainable energy practices, empowering them to achieve energy efficiency goals and positively impact their organizations.

Objectives of this Role

  • Empower and support commercial and industrial facility managers in adopting sustainable energy practices and achieving improved energy efficiency within their properties.

Description

Are you an industrial energy auditor with experience performing onsite energy assessments in industrial facilities? We need you. We are interested in hiring an expert who can leverage their technical expertise and experience to perform onsite industrial energy audits at manufacturing facilities, geographically focused in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This is a remote, on-call role that provides flexibility to work from zero to 30+ hours per week. Driving distance geographic proximity to Pennsylvania is required in order to perform onsite energy assessments at manufacturing facilities.  

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Conduct energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) assessments at industrial facilities.  

  • Identify energy and GHG saving opportunities for manufacturing customers. 

  • Develop industrial energy project analysis and savings calculations. 

  • Define and manage technical metrics to measure and assess program and project performance. 

  • Support in developing industrial decarbonization technical assistance programs, focused especially on energy intensive industries and small/medium facilities.   

  • Provide technical assessments and recommendations to program and project managers to aid in successful achievement of research program goals and objectives. 

  • Deliver products reflective of ICF and client standards. 

 

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in energy engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related disciplines. 

  • A minimum 5 years of relevant technical experience conducting industrial energy assessments.  

  • Excellent understanding of the latest industrial research topics, technical challenges, and market trends. 

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Must be able to travel. Candidate will be expected to travel to manufacturing facilities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to perform energy audits. Must have a reliable vehicle for local travel. Reimbursement for mileage will be provided.  

  • Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check. 

  • High proficiency in significant energy using industrial processes (e.g., process heating, motor systems, boilers, heat recovery, compressed air, HVAC), decarbonization technologies, and energy efficiency best practices. 

 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • A master’s degree or PhD in energy engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related disciplines. 

  • Previous industry experience in industrial manufacturing. 

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM®), 50001 Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems, Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), Performance Measurement and Verification Expert (PMVE), or other relevant certifications in the field of industrial energy efficiency.

  • Knowledge of EPA Climate Partnership Programs.

Overview: 

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.

 

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group in the Manufacturing Science Division (MSD), Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to work in the areas of life cycle energy impacts analysis, technoeconomic analysis, and industrial energy efficiency analysis research under the Strategic Analysis and Industrial Energy Efficiency Programs.

 

The MEERA Group conducts techno-economic, value chain, trade, patent, and global analyses relevant to advanced energy and manufacturing technologies. MEERA is currently supporting a multi-laboratory DOE Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) project to develop an independent, objective, and publicly available geothermal well life cycle assessment analysis. This project will conduct research into alternative geothermal well designs that can improve the life cycle value of geothermal wells, reduce costs, improve productivity, and mitigate risks. The project builds upon previous MEERA work focusing on casing and cementing activities that identified the cost of casing, cement and cement additives, and annulus area as key variables in reducing total drilling cost. This project expands the analysis to other aspects of geothermal well development including well completion, production, and abandonment phases.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct techno-economic, value chain, and global manufacturing competitiveness analysis in the area of geothermal well development.
  • Analyze supply chain, material flows, and development costs throughout the lifecycle of a geothermal well to identify opportunities to reduce materials, time, and environmental impact of geothermal wells.
  • Help support other MEERA Group industrial technical deployment (Better Plants) and Energy System Software Tools development projects.
  • Help support the development of new resources, trainings, and tools to support companies participating in the DOE’s Better Plants program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Quantitative and analytical research background which can be applied to conduct research analysis on geothermal well development and other advanced energy technologies that could achieve transformative gains in energy efficiency.
  • Ability to develop optimization and life cycle models analyzing advanced energy technologies.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience in life cycle energy and cost assessments for technology assessments.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An educational background in sustainable manufacturing technologies with an emphasis on life cycle research.
  • Experience in manufacturing process or energy systems modeling.
  • Proficiency in the use of industry standard modeling and simulation tools, such as spreadsheet-based process cost modeling, input/output modeling, or commercially available life cycle analysis tools such as SimaPro and openLCA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and participate creatively in collaborative teams.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

  • Conducts energy analysis for projects at medium to large commercial and industrial facilities to identify and recommend energy efficiency improvements in a variety of facility energy using systems (lighting, HVAC, compressed air, refrigeration, process heating, plastic molding or forming, motors, boilers, pumping, food processing, etc.).
  • Writes technical reports summarizing results from energy assessments to quantify project economics (energy savings, cost savings, project cost, potential incentive, simple payback, etc.).
  • Conducts measurement and verification (M&V) site visits to establish facility energy usage patterns, identify potential energy savings opportunities, and verify installation of energy savings projects. M&V tasks may include installing field monitoring equipment / data loggers, collecting BAS trend data, completing functional performance tests, obtaining BAS screenshots and equipment photos, and discussing project implementation with the customer and contractor.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and assists project stakeholders and participants including program staff, contractors, and utility customers to help ensure customers are maximizing the benefits of utility programs.
  • Delivers professional, high-quality services and builds a quick rapport with utility customers.
  • Completes high-quality deliverables that demonstrate technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to travel locally up to 20%.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree, preferably in Mechanical, Energy, or similar Engineering. 
  • 1+ years of project experience or similar within the energy efficiency industry.
  • Ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects and work with technical staff.
  • Strong proficiency with oral communication, writing, and analytical skills.

Description

Are you an industrial energy auditor with experience performing onsite energy assessments in industrial facilities? We need you. We are interested in hiring an expert who can leverage their technical expertise and experience to perform onsite industrial energy audits at manufacturing facilities, geographically focused in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This is a remote, on-call role that provides flexibility to work from zero to 30+ hours per week. Driving distance geographic proximity to Pennsylvania is required in order to perform onsite energy assessments at manufacturing facilities.  

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Conduct energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) assessments at industrial facilities.  

  • Identify energy and GHG saving opportunities for manufacturing customers. 

  • Develop industrial energy project analysis and savings calculations.

Overview: 

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.

 

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group in the Manufacturing Science Division (MSD), Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to work in the areas of life cycle energy impacts analysis, technoeconomic analysis, and industrial energy efficiency analysis research under the Strategic Analysis and Industrial Energy Efficiency Programs.

 

The MEERA Group conducts techno-economic, value chain, trade, patent, and global analyses relevant to advanced energy and manufacturing technologies. MEERA is currently supporting a multi-laboratory DOE Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) project to develop an independent, objective, and publicly available geothermal well life cycle assessment analysis. This project will conduct research into alternative geothermal well designs that can improve the life cycle value of geothermal wells, reduce costs, improve productivity, and mitigate risks. The project builds upon previous MEERA work focusing on casing and cementing activities that identified the cost of casing, cement and cement additives, and annulus area as key variables in reducing total drilling cost. This project expands the analysis to other aspects of geothermal well development including well completion, production, and abandonment phases.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct techno-economic, value chain, and global manufacturing competitiveness analysis in the area of geothermal well development.
  • Analyze supply chain, material flows, and development costs throughout the lifecycle of a geothermal well to identify opportunities to reduce materials, time, and environmental impact of geothermal wells.
  • Help support other MEERA Group industrial technical deployment (Better Plants) and Energy System Software Tools development projects.
  • Help support the development of new resources, trainings, and tools to support companies participating in the DOE’s Better Plants program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop optimization and life cycle models analyzing advanced energy technologies.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience in life cycle energy and cost assessments for technology assessments.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An educational background in sustainable manufacturing technologies with an emphasis on life cycle research.
  • Experience in manufacturing process or energy systems modeling.
  • Proficiency in the use of industry standard modeling and simulation tools, such as spreadsheet-based process cost modeling, input/output modeling, or commercially available life cycle analysis tools such as SimaPro and openLCA.
